Behind SHAPERS is one person —not a corporation.
My name is Rafael Wagner; I’m from Düsseldorf, and I’m a happy husband and father of two children. I founded SHAPERS in 2019—not as a marketing idea, but because I myself was the customer that no one was serving.
What you're about to read is my own story. Honestly, because I think it's long overdue for men to be able to talk openly about topics like this.
From rock bottom in front of the mirror to 35,000+ men.
Hitting Rock Bottom in Front of the Mirror
In my early 20s, significantly overweight—and in a silent battle with gynecomastia since puberty. I didn’t feel comfortable at work, and in my personal life, I withdrew. Every shirt, every T-shirt, every summer was a bit of a struggle.
Back then, in particular, no one in men’s circles spoke openly about things like that. There was no language for it, no platform, no space. Men were supposed to be “strong”—and being strong meant keeping quiet.
The Search for a Solution
I started doing some research. For women, there was an entire industry—brands, styles, and expert advice. For men, there was an embarrassing half-baked product: poorly designed, poorly marketed, and uncomfortable to wear. No one had seriously tackled the issue.
SHAPERS was founded
I made up my mind: if no one else is going to do it, I will. Driven by my own needs, I founded SHAPERS in 2019 —to offer men in similar situations an option. Back then, I was significantly heavier than I am today. Next to me is the first prototype from our factory —the first version that finally felt right.
There were plenty of tools available for women. For men, there was nothing comparable. That’s exactly what we wanted to change with SHAPERS.
A Personal Turning Point
I started with exercise and diet. Over the course of two years, I lost a lot of weight. I was proud—but at the same time, I realized that my love handles and gynecomastia were still there . Genetics are non-negotiable. Certain areas of the body remain the same, no matter how disciplined you are.
Consciously Opposing the Surgery
I have deliberately chosen not to have gynecomastia surgery to this day. Instead, I wear SHAPERS—and I’m incredibly happy to have now offered over 35,000 men in Germany an option that I myself had been searching for for years.
Today, SHAPERS is no longer a stopgap measure, but a deliberate advantage. Like a well-fitting suit. A well-groomed hairstyle. A confident handshake.
I want to make it the norm for men to be able to give it their all, too—without having to justify themselves.
